Info:
The design intention of this project is to create a centralized communal campfire for travellers to have an opportunity to gather together and meet new people. People in this retreat will have the opportunity to gather in the centre where the campfire is, or to feel the atmosphere from a distance at the building’s balcony. Each building is divided in 4 bedrooms, where a group of friend can hang around together or for small group of people they can have their own little space with the balcony provided to them. As provided with the attached concept sketch, the building form is generate by the lines coming off from the centre of the circle, where the centre of it, was meant to be the focus point (campfire), and coming off it, and meant to be the vision coming of the centre, and viewing towards the river, where I find it has provided a great view around the site. For the roof of the building, turf was chosen to be the appropriate material. The reason behind it was the high degree of insulation that turf roof was known for their ability to keep consistent temperature throughout the year that keeps the building warm in winter and cool in summer, and it also can clean the dirt of the rainwater, to have the water re-used again (to the rainwater tank at ground floor). For the material, concrete block was use in the internal face with timber cladding on the external, as this is would be the only building in the area, if the material being used were too modern it’ll make the building too alienated on the site, so this would be the appropriate material chosen for this building.
